Thoughts on Blue Milk
Here is what is sure to be the most divisive question among the Star Wars fandom: do you like blue milk?
(For your reference, the correct answer is “yes”. For I am The Crumb. And my word is law.)
But perhaps there are those among you who are not familiar with this, the sacred nectar of the gods. Fear not, for I shall enlighten you.
Blue milk, first appearing upon the Lars’ table on Tatooine in A New Hope, is a sweet beverage with notes of tropical flavors like coconut, dragon fruit and pineapple. And yes, it is light blue in color and comes from the female banthas of Tatooine.
This beverage can also be found on the planet Batuu (“Hollywood Studios” in Disney World as some of you humans call it) at the local milk stand. Delectably refreshing on a hot, humid day, we consider it one of the most excellent beverages this side of the Outer Rim. But be warned, prices are steep with a small cup coming in at just under $10. Oobidibobbidi!!! And yet, the price will be paid (with some grumbling) any time I frequent the planet.
There are many who claim to have perfected the recipe for Batuu’s blue milk. Many have failed. My human has attempted it several times. This is one of her attempts. Into which category it belongs, you may decide.
Recipe for Blue Milk:
1 and 1/2 cups soursop juice (strained)
1/2 cup passion fruit juice
2 T watermelon juice
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1/8 cup soymilk (or coconut)
1/4 tsp blue spirulina powder
Combine in blender and serve. Makes however much it makes. Substitutions and variations abound. Get creative and experiment and see what you like!
In closing, while I appreciate her efforts to replicate this beverage and did find it quite drinkable, I find no recipe can truly hold a lightsaber to the true blue from Batuu. Somehow, the taste is enhanced when consuming it whilst strolling the rustic stands of the marketplace or hiding in the shadows of the Millennium Falcon as stormtroopers patrol the area. We would advise those traveling to this quadrant to skip the mundane bags of popcorn and “Mickey” pretzels and save your money for one (or several) cup of Batuu’s own bantha blue milk.
