Chewie…we’re home

As some of you know, Jessica and I met on the planet of Batuu in Disney’s Hollywood Studios several years ago. I first saw her walking amongst the stalls of the marketplace, cooing to the various alien creatures and exchanging pleasantries with the local patrons. I decided that I would adopt her as my very own human and our adventures together began.

Earlier this year, I found myself growing somewhat homesick- perhaps after witnessing the girl’s splendid May the 4th party in honor of Star Wars Day with all of her themed food, galactic decor and lightsaber battles. Shortly thereafter, an opportunity presented itself and the girl and I packed our bags (she rather overpacked in my opinion) and made the drive down to Florida and ensconced ourselves within the Disney bubble. Our primary objective: one entire day immersed in the sights, sounds, and flavors of Batuu. (Spoiler alert-objective ACHIEVED!)

We had no concrete plans other than to wander the land of Galaxy’s Edge and delight in some of the limited time offerings such as pink milk (a plant based drink with strong hints of bubblegum flavor- not our favorite. Blue milk still reigns supreme!) The girl also sampled a number of other provisions for the first time including the breakfast ronto wrap (a cross between a hot dog and an omelette), the Blue Bantha drink (a cup of blue milk with a decorative but very underwhelming cookie on top), and a plate of Chicken Tip-Yip (chicken nugget bites) with yucca fries.

Sitting in the shade of the Black Spires, we observed many a First Order trooper patrolling (some of whom insisted that I be restrained as a dangerous menace to the peace and tranquility of the planet. My coronary chambers were warmed at how quickly my girl put those troopers in their place). We also spotted Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, Rey, and the Mandalorian with his child during the day.

Aside from some of those First Order moof milkers, I was welcomed back to Batuu with open arms and greeted with much enthusiasm and delight by the local laborers and galactic visitors. The girl and I loved our interactions and sharing our love of Star Wars with others. (And hiding secret rock messages in the Aurebesh language around the planet!)

I considered translating this for you but that would make things too easy. I offer you a link for the official Aurebesh translation website. From there, you are on your own.
Fun factoid: some of the actual props and set pieces from some of the Star Wars movies and shows have found their way to the shops and landscape around Batuu.

All in all, we spent a superb day getting to settle into the daily life and rhythms of the planet. We familiarized ourselves with the native cuisine, deciphered some of the Aurebesh signage, discovered design secrets in the buildings and environs, learned the game of Sabaac, and partook of many enjoyable conversations. Though, we confess there were two small laments that we experienced.

One: that the vendor who had housed me on the planet several years ago is no longer there. Which means I saw none of my old friends or relatives. Perhaps they have taken up residence on another planet by now and we will meet at some point in the future. I know the girl was somewhat disappointed on my behalf. She had been dropping hints about finding me a female companion for some time…

Our second regret was that we had only ONE. SINGLE. CUP. OF BLUE MILK. Between the pink milk and all of the other food throughout the day, our three stomachs could only hold so much and unfortunately, that left room for only one cup of blue milk. Truthfully, the girl drank that cup down so fast, I’m not even sure she tasted any of it. I certainly didn’t get much. Next time, we will skip all other food and beverages and nourish ourselves purely on the sweet bantha blue nectar from the gods! Blue milk breakfast, lunch, and dinner truly does not sound so bad at all.

As ever, thank you for reading. Go have an adventure and may your blue milk cup be ever full!
